American Robin

While gardening today I discovered this precious birds nest tucked away in a yew.  How wonderful to discover two pastel-blue eggs and a baby chick in a neat, deep cup made of mud and twigs.  Nearby the mother Robin watched intensely as I quickly took a photograph of her baby.

Come springtime, I often receive a pleasant predawn wake-up call from our American Robin.  This early bird will fill your heart with song.  I love to watch them as they hop across the lawn looking for earthworms.  They brighten gloomy days with a friendly reminder of springtime sights and sounds.

  3. Hi Donna
The mothering instinct comes out even for birds, doesn't it? Excellent shot of the robin's nest.
As the weather warms here there will be a very loud chorus of robins every morning about 5 am that usually wakes us up. We don't mind though as they have a pleasant song.

  7. What a great picture. When I sit out on the deck in the early morning to enjoy my coffee, the robins always sing good morning to me. Got to love the little ones.

  8. Donna, I love the birds nest photo. I have never seen eggs that shade of blue except in photos. We have a Miockingbird nest in one of our arbors. I might try to take a peek and sneak a photo or two. Janet

  10. Robins are my favorite! We had a nest one year just outside the back door on top of our irrigation control box. Every time we went out the back door the mama robin would fuss at us LOl!
