Lovin' Chalk Paint

Hi everyone,

Today I have a little paint project to share with you.  We all know how wonderful Annie Sloan's chalk paint is so I decided to paint this cherub candle holder.  Although, I adore the style of this holder I wasn't too crazy about the gold distressing.  I wanted something a little more subtle.
It started like this ...

I applied one coat of Old White and then was able to reapply a second coat in about an hour.  Here is what it looked like after two coats.

Using a soft rag I sparingly applied dark wax for a more weathered look.  Voila ... I was finished!  I love the way it turned out.

Soft and dreamy ...

I added a garland of cottage roses.

Which do you prefer the before or after?  Don't worry you won't hurt my feelings ...lol.  Thanks for stopping by to see what I have been up to.

  3. I love chalk paint and, like you, don't really care for the gold on the "before." Nice job!

  4. It's a bit hard to see detail but I think I like the tatty version: I guess it looks more "loved"

  5. Hello lovely Donna, funny that I am reading this as I was just doing exactly the same thing yesterday, painting a little with some annie sloan chalk paint and in the same colour too! You have done a lovely job with your cherub, it looks really lovely. I painted some picture frames and table legs and I am very happy with the result. Not sure whether I will go completely chalk everytime, I think I much too much love Little Green Company paint to give that up. xoxoxo

  8. Both are very pretty! I always love chippy and 'tattered' but the softer, after version looks great, too! :)

  12. I would have kept it tatty if I'd used it outside or in the sunroom. Indoors I like the soft colour in the candlelight. Thanks for your kind words on my blog. See you at the blog party.
