Witch Hat Wordplay

Even though I have tons of patterned paper I still find myself creating my own backgrounds.  This card was designed using the faux mother of pearl technique (one of my favorites).

I started with a piece of Shimmery White paper then inked the Memory Box Flourish stamp with VersaMark then Lavender Lace and embossed it with clear embossing powder and a heat gun.  I drew two lines with a black marker and stamped my spiders in StazOn Black and embossed them with clear embossing powder.  The cobweb was stamped in VersaMark and embossed with silver embossing powder.

Now I am ready to create my background.  I started by placing a small amount of Adirondack Metallics Pearl Acrylic Paint on a paint palette, then bunched up a piece of Saran Wrap and dipped it into the Pearl Acrylic Paint.  I tapped on the paper to transfer the paint leaving some areas uncovered.  I sponged VersaMagic Pretty Petunia with a little Distressed Dusty Concord around the edges.  You can find the tutorial here on SCS.

The witch hat was stamped in StazOn Black and embossed with iridescent ice embossing powder.  The buckle was colored with lavender and silver spica pens.  I cut out the hat and popped it up off the card for dimension.

I layered the faux mother of pearl to a piece of Basic Black and mounted everything onto a Grape Jelly card.

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Memory Box Vintage Scroll, Inkadinkado Spider & Web, Inkadinkado Witch Hat
Paper:  Grape Jelly, Basic Black, Shimmery White
Ink:  Lavender Lace, StazOn Black, VersaMagic Pretty Petunia, Distressed Dusty Concord
Accessories:  Lavender and Silver Spica Pens, Adirondack Metallics Pearl Acrylic Paint
Techniques:  Embossing, Sponging, Faux Mother of Pearl Technique

The almost clear spiderweb was a neat surprise, didn't see it until I enlarged your picture. Great card, as always.

What a fantastic technique for the background. I will have to give this a try and I love the colors you used for this card.

Fabulous background! Making our own background paper is so much more fun! It is the process as well as the finished product that is important. Love the II on the hat!
