Pretty Lilacs

The heavenly scent of lilacs ...

They are the most delicate, old fashioned and romantic of flowers ...

Pale lavender with star shaped blossoms ...

There is something unabashedly romantic about them and they have the sweetest scent.

The story of lilac, according to Greek mythology, begins with a beautiful nymph named Syringa (lilac's botanical name).  Captivated by her beauty, Pan, the god of the forests and fields, chased Syringa through the forest.  Frightened by Pan's affections, Syringa escaped him by turning herself into an aromatic bush ~ the flower we now refer to as lilac.

So beautiful! One of my all time favorite flowers and smell! Love the deep color of yours! My lilac topiary is blooming but the new growth is hiding most of the flower. I can smell it though so that makes me happy!

Your Lilacs are gorgeous Donna and I love the sweet watering can. I have not heard the myth before. Thank you for sharing it. Lilacs are one of my favorite bushes. I have dwarf ones. They were beautiful but not are spent. I will have to wait to welcome their beautiful scent for another year.
Hugs,
Jann
