Babbling Brook in Mist

I first cut a piece of glossy cardstock 5” x 3 ¾”

I then stamped the Stampscapes Babbling Brook using StazOn Jet Black positioning it slightly to the right.

Next I stamped the small Boulders with Lichen on the left side in StazOn Jet Black. This stamp is made to be stacked so I stamped the boulders 2 more times.

I next masked off the top of the boulders with post-it notes and then stamped the Tree Trunk Trio’s in StazOn Jet Black on top of the rocks.

Keeping my post-it notes in place, I inked up the pine trees in Handsome Hunter. Before stamping the trees I used a dry paper towel and very lightly wiped some of the ink off the bottom of the trees. This helps in creating a misty setting.

I then stamped the Spooky Branch hanging down on the right side in StazOn Jet Black.

When creating a landscape scene I prefer to use StazOn ink as it gives me a crisp image and does not smear when I sponge over it. I’m sure there are other brands out there which work just as well. I also like to stamp all of my images first and then go back and do my sponging.

Sponging:

I sponged the top and bottom of the sky in Going Gray.

The rocks and water were sponged first with Bordering Blue leaving some white areas, especially where the water falls. You want to retain your light values on various objects when applying color.

I very lightly added a little Adirondack Sailboat Blue and Adirondack Denim.

Next I sponged Night of Navy on the base of the rocks followed by Basic Gray blending as I go.

The tree trunks were colored in with Chocolate Chip ink applied with a cotton swab. I then used my Close to Cocoa marker on the left side to darken the trunks.

Mist:

To create the misty appearance very thin applications of ColorBox "Frost White" pigment ink was applied to the water using a cotton swab. This pigment ink dries slowly so it will give you as much time to remove some of your applied ink if it is too thick. Once dry you can always go back and apply another layer to make it whiter.

On the top of the rocks and around the trees I used ColorBox “Whisper Grey” pigment ink and also applied it using a cotton swab.

Lastly, I added a little SU Frost White Shimmer Paint to the waterfall.

I cut my Going Gray mat to 5 ¼” x 4" and assembled the card which is 5 ½” x 4 ¼”.

you are an artist, I would never be able to part with cards that looked like that.
I hope someday I can do something even a little close to that.
